I Love and Live Yoga

Nov 22, 2010

Due to a series of accidents and injuries, My Doctor and good friend, James Johnson, advised me to try Yoga. My flexibility was horrible. He told me I would lose all flexibility if I didn’t give it a try. I didn’t know anything about Yoga but I didn’t any other option. That’s when I found Sanctuary for Yoga in Nashville.

It was tough at first as Yoga is not competitive it is a life long process. I remember taking a Therapeutic Yoga class that was filled with beautiful women that probably had the starting age of 50-55. The first time I attended the class, I thought I am going to sail through this as I am the youngest person there and I had been a runner for so long. I was so completely wrong! Those women kicked my ass! They were amazing! However, not one of them showed any sign of arrogance or ego. They embraced me and took me without question. Together those women along with an amazing instructor, Dr. Cathy Stallworth, introduced me to a whole new world and way of thinking. I stayed committed to that class and slowly my flexibility improved more than I thought possible. The Owners of the studio, Tom & Daphne Larkin, quickly became I mentors.

Tom and I spent many hours discussing philosophy. I found myself so compelled to learn the mental & spiritual side of Yoga. Tom introduced me to a world I never even had heard of. Over the next 5 years, actually 5 years in January 2011, I worked my way up to taking more advanced classes and reading every book Tom & Daphne suggested. I devoured every bit of it! I was learning how to integrate mind body & spirit, how to live a yogic life.

Since attending that first class, I have not grown to be trained as a Yoga teacher and had the extreme honor to serve the very class of ladies, that took me in initially, as their teacher, assisting Dr. Stallworth.

These days, I spend most of time traveling, promoting the music and I carry everything my family at Sanctuary taught me. I practice yoga privately and in classes wherever I happen to be. I have expanded my studies to include energy, meditation & chanting. Every aspect of my life includes something pertaining to Yoga. I attempt to live Yoga. One of the great parts of Yoga is that we say that we practice Yoga. We never say I have learned Yoga.

What began as physical therapy became, mental, emotional, physical and spiritual therapy! I believe every person, regardless of age, weight, injuries etc, can find your life dramatically changed by this amazing practice.

My humblest thanks to Tom(STG), Daphne(D-Luv) , Cathy & everyone at Sanctuary for Yoga in Nashville Tennessee!

Namaste,
McKendree
